國民黨總統參選人洪秀柱籲民進黨總統參選人最晚11月起每周電視辯論一次。蔡英文昨在桃園發布民進黨客家政策、台三線浪漫大道政策前，對總統大選辯論表示，依照慣例，在登記完、候選人確定後再來討論辯論的事。

對於是否辯論、怎麼辯論、何時辯論，蔡英文保持一切等各候選人登記參選之後再說的基調；昨日洪秀柱再下戰帖，蔡英文似顯無奈地講，「哎，這個講了好多次了，照慣例都是登記以後才開始辯論的嘛！所以我們希望登記完了、候選人也確定了，再來討論辯論的事情，這樣比較穩妥、也符合慣例。」
